Chana dal can be cooked in various ways and it taste really different every time. Earlier I have shared the recipe of chana dal with paneer & chana dal with keema. Today I am going to share another recipe of chana dal which quite easy and tasty too. The recipe is lauki chana dal or doodhi chana dal. Many of us does not like the taste of lauki however it is full of health benefits. You can add lauki in chana dal which becomes a tasty and healthy recipe.

Lauki Chana Dal

Ingredients

Chana Dal (Split Bengal Gram) - 11/2 cup
Bottle Gourd(Lauki) - 1 cup, cut into small cubes
Onion - 2 medium, chopped
Ginger - 1/2 inch, chopped
Asafoetida - a pinch
Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Mustard Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Red Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Garam Masala Powder - 1 teaspoon
Cumin Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander Powder - 1 teaspoon
Green Chilli - 2
Salt to taste
Refined Oil - 21/2 tablespoon

Procedure

Wash and soak the chana dal for one hour. Now heat oil in a pressure cooker and add asafoetida, mustard seeds & Cumin seeds. Later add chopped onion and ginger. Fry them till the onion changes to light brown colour. Add dry spices (turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and salt) and later add chana dal. Stir for some time and add cubes of bottle gourd. Next add green chilli and garam masala powder.Add equal portion of water and put the lid of pressure cooker. Allow 2 to 3 whistles and make sure the dal should not be over boiled.[So adjust the whistles according to the nature of the chana dal. Few batches take time to get soft and some batches become soft early.] Serve hot with roti.
