Mushroom Masala

Mushroom Masala is a famous side dish with roti or rice. Mushroom masala is basically a dry dish but you can do some exceptional & serve it with gravy too. Whenever you are cooking mushrooms, you should follow proper steps to clean the mushrooms. Cleaning of mushrooms is an important step that you should never skip because most of the times mushrooms come with dust and dirt. "How to clean mushrooms" should be an important step for a novice cook who is going to cook it for the first time. Take a bowl of cold water and rinse them well & keep them on dry napkin otherwise it will soak too much water and loose the texture & taste.  Now you can cut them as you desire and prepare your favourite dish as I did.

Mushroom Masala


Button Mushroom - chopped, 200 gm
Onion - medium size, chopped
Ginger paste - 2 teaspoon
Garlic - 3-4 cloves, smashed
Red Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon
Coriander Powder - 1 teaspoon
Cumin Powder - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Tomato Puree- 1/2 cup
Green Chilli - 2-3
Sugar -1/2 teaspoon
Refined oil/Mustard oil
Salt to Taste


Clean the mushrooms (as I mentioned above) and chop them. Heat oil in a pan(I used mustard oil for this recipe) and fry the mushrooms using turmeric powder and salt. While frying, water will come out from mushroom. Allow the water to dry and keep the fried mushrooms aside. Heat oil in a pan again and add crushed garlic cloves and then onions for frying. Once the onion starts changing the color, add ginger paste, green chilli, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Mix them well and add tomato puree & sugar. When the oil starts separating from the spices add little water and then fried mushrooms. Now slow the flame and cover with a lid. Wait for 5-7 minutes and serve hot & spicy Mushroom Masala with roti or rice.
